How to check your card's balance

These work for gift cards from small businesses, which often use outside card providers.

  1. Ask the business that sold the card. This is the most reliable way. They can scan it at the register and tell you the balance.
  2. Call the business. Many can look up a card by its number over the phone.
  3. Look for a phone number on the back. If the card lists a toll-free number, call it.
  4. Keep your receipt. If the card ever stops working, the receipt helps the business honor it.
